Our Commitment
Easy Building Codes is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone by applying relevant accessibility standards across our platform.
Conformance Standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines define requirements for making web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
Current Status: We continuously test and improve our platform to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. While we strive for full conformance, some areas may still need improvement and we are actively working to address them.
Accessibility Features
Visual Accessibility
- Colour Contrast: All text meets the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text
- Dark Mode: System-aware dark mode with optimised contrast ratios and reduced eye strain
- Resizable Text: Content remains readable and functional when text is resized up to 200%
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard navigation
- Colour Independence: Information is never conveyed by colour alone; we use text labels, icons, and patterns to supplement colour
Keyboard Accessibility
- Full Keyboard Navigation: All interactive features are operable using a keyboard alone (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Escape, and Arrow keys)
- Logical Tab Order: Focus order follows the visual layout and matches the expected reading sequence
- Skip Links: Skip navigation links allow keyboard users to bypass repeated content and jump directly to main content
- No Keyboard Traps: Users can navigate into and out of all components using the keyboard
- Modal Focus Management: When dialogs and modals open, focus is moved into the modal and contained until the modal is closed
Screen Reader Support
- Semantic HTML: Proper use of headings, lists, landmarks, buttons, links, and other semantic elements for clear document structure
- ARIA Attributes: Appropriate ARIA labels, roles, and live regions for dynamic content, status messages, and interactive components
- Alternative Text: Descriptive alt text for all meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology
- Form Labels: All form inputs have programmatically associated labels
- Status Announcements: Important status changes (e.g. form submission results, loading states) are announced to screen readers using ARIA live regions
Touch and Motor Accessibility
- Touch Targets: All interactive elements meet the minimum 44 x 44 pixel touch target size
- Adequate Spacing: Sufficient spacing between interactive elements to prevent accidental activation
- Multiple Input Methods: The interface works with mouse, keyboard, touch, voice control, and other assistive technologies
Motion and Animation
- Reduced Motion: Respects the
prefers-reduced-motionoperating system setting to minimise or remove animations - No Auto-Playing Media: No content plays automatically without user action
- Purposeful Transitions: Animations are brief (150 to 300ms), subtle, and serve a clear functional purpose

Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some limitations may exist:
- Third-party components (e.g. payment forms) are provided by external services and may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control. We select providers that prioritise accessibility.
- PDF documents uploaded by users or sourced from external authorities may not meet accessibility standards. Where possible, we extract text content to make it available in accessible formats.
- AI-generated responses are presented as text, which is generally accessible, but complex formatting within responses may occasionally present challenges for some assistive technologies.
